Should you keep your marketing in-house?

Marketing is very important when running a business. You need to think carefully about how you are going to do it and who will be responsible for it. You have a few different options as to who will manage your marketing for you. You may want to try and keep costs low by getting staff who you already employ to do your online and offline marketing or you may decide to do it yourself. This will only work if the person responsible for it has a good knowledge and has the time to carry out the tasks needed. If they do not have the relevant skills and experience then they may end up doing more harm than good. The other option you have is to use a third party. You can choose to outsource your marketing to another individual who has experience in the area (self-employed marketing expert). This may keep costs down a little, compared to using an agency, but does mean that you are solely relying upon one person and so if they are ill or away you may have no one to do the work for you.

The other option is to use a marketing agency. These companies usually have a number of employees whose main job involves working on marketing on a daily basis meaning they will have a lot of experience. They often have enough staff to ensure that they can cover staff illnesses / holiday leave and therefore can offer you a reliable and consistent service.
